Meet BAM Digital Media at the District 18 Back-to-School Block Party in Canarsie

BAM Digital Media will be joining Community School District 18 for its free Back-to-School Block Party in Canarsie, and I am especially excited about this one because District 18 is my home community.

On Saturday, September 26, 2026, families are invited to enjoy a full day of activities, food, giveaways, and helpful community resources. The event will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on East 95th Street between Flatlands Avenue and Conklin Avenue.

BAM Digital Media will be tabling at the event and providing free digital literacy resources for local parents and children.

Free Digital Literacy Resources for Families

Technology plays a major role in how children learn, socialize, and spend their free time. Many parents are trying to help their children develop healthier habits while also keeping up with changing apps, artificial intelligence, online risks, and social media trends.

Families who visit the BAM Digital Media table can pick up practical resources covering screen-time habits, digital wellness, online safety, and cyberbullying. I will also have information to help families better understand algorithms and personalized feeds.

Algorithms influence which videos, posts, and recommendations appear on a child’s screen. Once young people understand that their feeds are designed around their behavior, they can begin making more thoughtful choices about what they watch and how long they stay online.

Parents are welcome to stop by with questions or share the digital challenges showing up in their homes. The goal is to offer guidance that feels realistic for everyday family life.

Supporting the Community Where I Live

As a Canarsie resident, Brooklyn parent, and NYC public school graduate, participating in a District 18 event is deeply personal to me.

BAM Digital Media works with schools and community organizations to help students become safer, more thoughtful technology users. Programs also give parents the knowledge they need to have informed conversations about the digital world.

Community engagement is an important part of that mission. Families deserve access to useful information in familiar neighborhood spaces, especially when the issues affect their children every day.

Being present at the District 18 Back-to-School Block Party allows me to share resources with the same community where I live and raise my family. I am proud to bring BAM Digital Media’s work directly to my Canarsie neighbors.

The District 18 Back-to-School Block Party will offer free activities for the entire family. According to Community School District 18, the event will include children’s entertainment, free food, community resources, and giveaways.

The event is being presented by Community School District 18 and Visit Canarsie.
