A Bright Day at P.S. 070 The Max

Some days just flow so effortlessly that you don’t want them to end—and that’s exactly how my visit to P.S. 070 The Max felt. From the moment I walked into the building, there was this warm, welcoming energy that made it clear I was in for something special.

I had the opportunity to spend time with the students talking about something they are already deeply connected to: their digital lives. We jumped right into conversations about the platforms they use every day, especially Roblox, and I asked them to be real with me about their habits.

Honest Conversations About the Internet

What stood out to me the most was how honest they were. Some students already understood that there are strangers online and that not everyone has good intentions. That awareness was encouraging to see.

But what really stuck with me was something else. A few students admitted that even though they knew the risks, they didn’t always take them seriously. And that right there is why these conversations matter so much.

It’s not always about teaching kids something brand new—it’s about helping them connect what they know to how they actually behave online. That gap is where guidance, conversation, and consistency come in.

Sparking Interest Beyond the Screen

We also talked about content creation, and that’s when the energy shifted in the best way. Their curiosity kicked in immediately. They leaned forward, asked thoughtful questions, and started imagining what it could look like for them to create, not just consume.

I shared what it means to be a content creator and how I use that experience to teach digital literacy and online responsibility. You could see their interest growing in real time.

That moment—when kids start to see themselves as capable, creative, and responsible digital citizens—is everything.

The Little Moments That Add Up

Of course, we kept things fun too. I handed out candy, coloring pages, and materials they could take with them. It may seem small, but those takeaways matter. They give students something tangible to hold onto and revisit, even after the conversation is over.

The entire visit flew by. One minute we were just getting started, and the next, it was time to wrap up. Those are always the best kinds of days.

And to top it all off, I was treated to a delicious lunch at the end, which gave me a chance to reflect and really appreciate the experience.

Grateful for the Opportunity

I left feeling incredibly grateful. Grateful for the students who showed up curious and open. Grateful for the opportunity to speak, connect, and share something meaningful. And grateful to be doing work that truly matters.

These kids are bright. They’re aware. And they’re navigating a digital world that’s moving fast. When we meet them where they are and give them the tools to make better choices, they listen.

Bringing This Experience to More Classrooms

Moments like this are exactly why I do what I do. There is so much value in creating space for honest conversations about the internet, especially in a way that feels relatable, engaging, and empowering for students.

If you’re a school, educator, or parent group looking to bring these kinds of conversations into your community, I’d love to connect. My workshops focus on helping students understand their digital world while building the confidence and awareness they need to navigate it safely.

Because when kids are given the right tools, they don’t just learn—they grow into it.
